World Blood Donor Day

Donating Blood Saves Lives

Donating blood gives you a feeling of empowerment. It's an hour of your time that will remind you how great it is to help another person. It is selfless, generous, and could possibly save someone's life.

June 14th is World Blood Donor Day. It's a day to remind you to schedule an appointment to give this life-saving donation. One blood donation can save up to three lives. Our blood is composed of three key elements: The blood cells, platelets, and plasmacan each be used to help a different person. Red blood cells help patients during or after surgeries. Platelets can help people suffering with cancer. Blood plasma is often used for people who had a bad trauma or who are being treated for burns.

Statistics show that every 2 seconds someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. Approximately 30,000 units of blood are used each day in the U.S. One out of seven people who enter a hospital will need blood, but unfortunately, only about 3% of Americans donate each year.

If you are generally in good health and have a desire to help people, then take the time this World Blood Donor Day to schedule your appointment.
